In short
- Ripple’s conference, Swell 2026, was set for New York from 27 to 29 October 2026.
- In the same week Ripple put out big numbers about its own business. Those are the company’s own claims about itself.
- Some news was an announcement, with no date for when it starts.
- Knowing which is which helps you read the next headline calmly.
Why the news feels so loud
If you searched for XRP news around Swell week, you probably found a flood of videos and posts. Some say everything changed. Some say nothing did. Both can sound sure of themselves.
There is a simple way through. For each piece of news, ask who said it, and what kind of statement it is.
Three kinds of statement
Most news about a company falls into one of three kinds.
A company claim is what the company says about itself, such as its own sales or growth. It may well be true, but no one outside has checked it.
An announcement is a plan or a launch the company has said is coming. Until a date arrives and the thing is in use, it is a promise.
A checked fact is something you can confirm at a source that does not depend on the company, such as a regulator, a law or a published record.
What Ripple said in Swell week
Swell 2026 was set for 27 to 29 October 2026 at The Shed, in New York. Ripple says it combined its Swell and Apex conferences into one event.
Here is what Ripple put out that week, with the kind of statement each one is.
| What Ripple said | Kind of statement |
|---|---|
| RLUSD at a “$2.6 billion market cap” | Company claim |
| “over $16 trillion in transactions” (2025) | Company claim |
| US$900 million annualised product revenue, exiting 2026 | Company claim |
| BNY and Ripple: trade finance on the XRPL | Company claim |
| An always-on treasury platform, 26 Oct | Announced, no start date |
| Swell 2026, 27 to 29 Oct, New York | Event set by Ripple |
Said in sentences: Ripple says its stablecoin, RLUSD, has a market cap of US$2.6 billion, up more than 88 per cent this year. Ripple says over US$16 trillion in transactions were enabled across its products in 2025. Ripple says it is on track to finish 2026 with $900 million a year in product revenue. Ripple says it and BNY are expanding work on tokenised trade finance on the XRP Ledger, starting with a firm called C2FO. Ripple announced an always-on platform for company treasuries on 26 October, with no date for when it is available. And the conference itself was set for 27 to 29 October in New York.
Who Ripple named
Ripple’s results release names DBS, HSBC, FirstRand Bank and Standard Chartered as banks that use its products. It names BNY, DriveWealth, Robinhood and Water.org as partners. These are Ripple’s own words. The release does not say, for each bank, which product it uses or how much.
What this means for the XRP Ledger
The XRP Ledger is the open network that XRP runs on. Ripple says its trade finance work with BNY is on the XRP Ledger. So, by Ripple’s own account, part of that activity is on the ledger.
What the release does not give is a measure from the ledger itself.
How to read the next headline
Next time a big number appears, try three quick questions. Who is saying it? Is it about their own business? And is there a date when it can be checked?
If the answer is “the company, about itself, with no way to check”, treat it as a claim. It may still be good news. It is just not yet a fact.
My view
In my view, the XRP Ledger is one of the most useful pieces of this new technology. That’s my opinion, and you may not agree, which is fine.
